About this opportunity
Opportunity Overview
The LRAEF Scholars Program awards up to $5,000 to students, educators, and industry professionals pursuing education in culinary arts, hospitality, restaurant management, tourism, and foodservice. The scholarship is administered by the Louisiana Restaurant Association Education Foundation (LRAEF) and supports undergraduate degrees, graduate studies, and professional certificate programs. Applications are due January 30. Since its founding in 2009, the LRA Education Foundation has given out more than $750,000 in scholarships. The program is designed for people already connected to Louisiana's hospitality scene or those looking to break into it. Recipients get a one-time award, not a renewable stipend, and the money goes toward tuition and related educational costs. There are multiple scholarship categories, so the specific requirements vary depending on which one you apply for. The Louisiana Restaurant Association Education Foundation is the charitable arm of the Louisiana Restaurant Association, which represents the state's restaurant and foodservice industry. Louisiana's hospitality sector is a major economic driver, particularly in New Orleans, where tourism and dining are central to the local economy. The foundation works to build a skilled workforce for this industry by funding education and training for everyone from high school students to working professionals. Louisiana has a distinct culture and a lower cost of living than many other U.S. states. New Orleans is the hub of the state's hospitality industry, but the scholarship supports programs across the state. The climate is humid and subtropical, with hot summers and mild winters. Since this scholarship is limited to U.S. citizens and eligible Louisiana residents, international applicants do not qualify.
