Privacy Policy

1. What this covers
Oppora ("we", "us") runs opporahq.com and everything on it: browsing opportunity listings, the free tools (CV Builder, Passport Photo Cropper, Opportunity Finder), an optional account for students and job seekers, and a separate account type for employers who post jobs directly. This policy covers all of that. You can use most of the Site, browsing, searching, the tools, without ever creating an account. This policy explains what changes once you do.
2. If you don't create an account
Browsing listings, using the Opportunity Finder, building a CV, or cropping a passport photo doesn't require signing in. We still collect standard, non-identifying technical data automatically, the same as almost any website:
- Browser type, device type, and general technical info sent by your browser
- Pages visited and roughly how long you spend on them
- The site or search engine that referred you here
- Country-level location, inferred from IP address, never a precise location
The Passport Photo Cropper is worth calling out specifically: it runs entirely in your browser. The photo you crop is never uploaded to our servers or seen by us, it never leaves your device.
3. If you create a student/job-seeker account
Signing in (via Google, or a one-time email link) gets you saved bookmarks, job alerts, and CVs that sync across devices. Creating an account means we store:
- Your email address, and your name and profile photo if you sign in with Google
- Profile details you choose to add: country, education level, field of study, used to show you more relevant listings and personalize job alerts, never sold or shared
- Opportunities you bookmark, and any notes or application status you attach to them (e.g. "applied", "waiting to hear back")
- Any CV you build and save with the CV Builder, this can include your name, contact details, education history, and work experience, exactly as you type it in
- Your email-alert preferences (which newsletter series you're subscribed to)
A saved CV is the most sensitive thing we store on your behalf, since you control what goes into it. We never read, scan, or use CV content for anything other than displaying it back to you and generating the PDF you export, it is not used to train any model, shared with employers automatically, or sold to anyone.
4. If you create an employer/organization account
Posting a job directly through Oppora requires an organization account, which stores your account email, the organization's name, website, and description, and the listings you submit. Job listings you post are automatically screened by an AI system for illegal or offensive content before publishing, and may be reviewed by an Oppora admin afterward, see our Terms of Service for how that review process works.
5. Cookies and third-party services
We use a session cookie to keep you signed in, that one is required for accounts to work at all. Beyond that:
- Analytics, we use analytics tooling (such as Google Analytics) to understand aggregate traffic patterns, not to identify individuals.
- Advertising, we display ads through Google AdSense and similar networks, which set their own cookies to show relevant ads based on browsing activity. These are governed by the ad network's own privacy policy, not ours. You can opt out of Google's personalized ads via Google Ads Settings, or install the Google Analytics Opt-out Add-on.
- Email delivery, job alerts and newsletter issues are sent through a third-party transactional email provider (Resend). Your email address is shared with them only to the extent needed to deliver that email.
6. Where listing content comes from
Opportunity listings on Oppora come from two places: public sources we index and then rewrite in our own voice (never copied verbatim), and employers who submit a listing directly. Either way, the underlying opportunity, its deadline, funding, and eligibility, belongs to and is the responsibility of the organization offering it, not Oppora. We link back to where a listing came from where relevant, but we don't control or vouch for third-party sites you may click through to.
7. How long we keep your data, and deleting your account
We keep account data for as long as your account exists. You can permanently delete your account at any time from Account Settings, this immediately and permanently removes your profile, saved CVs, bookmarks, and alert subscriptions. It cannot be undone, and we don't keep a backup copy around after you do it. If you'd rather not use the in-app control, email us at the address below and we'll do it for you.
8. Security
The Site is served entirely over HTTPS. Passwords are never stored for student/job-seeker accounts, sign-in is handled via Google OAuth or a one-time emailed link, so there's no password of yours for us to leak in the first place. No system is unbreakable, but there isn't a password database here to be a target.
9. Children's privacy
Oppora is built around scholarships, internships, and jobs, and is intended for users aged 13 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll remove it.
10. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that meaningfully affects how your data is handled, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the Site after a change means you accept the update.
11. Contact
