Opportunity Overview
This is a full-time permanent position for a Senior Legal Counsel in the Disputes & Litigation department at FIFA, located in Miami. The role involves conducting external disputes and contentious matters, providing legal advice, and managing multiple cases internationally. The position reports to the Head of Corporate Legal. The ideal candidate should have substantial professional experience in working with and drafting legal documents in English, as well as expertise in sports, media, sponsorship, and regulatory matters. They should be fully qualified to practice law, having completed academic and practical training, and be admitted to the Florida bar or eligible to register as Florida Authorized House Counsel. The role requires a high degree of professionalism, excellent negotiation and drafting skills, and the ability to work as part of a high-performing team. The candidate should be proactive, resilient, and able to competently handle a large workload amid rapidly shifting priorities.
Responsibilities
- Conduct of all external disputes and contentious matters involving FIFA
- Providing legal advice and guidance across all functional areas at FIFA related to contentious matters
- Conduct of settlement negotiations in the context of disputes
- Managing multiple cases in Switzerland and internationally
- Engagement and instruction of external counsel
- Responsibility for budgets for external legal spend
- Attending court hearings, reviewing, drafting and commenting on documents

Requirements & Qualifications
- Fully qualified to practise law (admitted to the Florida bar or eligible to register as Florida Authorized House Counsel)
- 8+ years of legal practice PQE
- Substantial professional experience of working with and drafting legal documents in English
- Excellent negotiation, drafting, problem solving and analytical skills
- Demonstrable interest in or experience of sports, media, sponsorship and regulatory matters
- First class written and spoken English language skills
- Ability to provide and communicate effectively practical and solutions-based legal advice
- Proficient in Word / PowerPoint / Excel
- Willingness to travel
