Opportunity Overview

The STAIR-Annapolis program is a twice-weekly after school literacy tutoring program for Anne Arundel County Public School first and second grade students reading below grade level. Tutors work one-on-one with a student for an hour and fifteen minutes, and the program runs from early October to early May. The program is held at two locations: Tracey's Elementary on Mondays and Thursdays, and Lothian Elementary on Mondays and Wednesdays, both from 2:30-3:45. Volunteers can choose to commit to one or two days per week, or work as substitutes on an as-needed basis. A comprehensive introduction and training are provided for all new volunteers. The program is designed to support students who are struggling with reading, and tutors will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on their students' literacy skills.
