About this opportunity
Opportunity Overview
The STAIR-Annapolis program is a twice-weekly after-school literacy tutoring program for first and second-grade students in Anne Arundel County Public Schools who are reading below grade level. Tutors work one-on-one with a student for 1 hour and 15 minutes per session. The program has 15 sites throughout the county, including Quarterfield Elementary School and a new site at Hebron-Harmon Elementary. The tutoring sessions at Quarterfield Elementary School are held on Mondays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:45, while the sessions at Hebron-Harmon Elementary will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30-3:45. The program runs from early October to early May. The STAIR-Annapolis program offers flexibility to its tutors, allowing them to choose their level of commitment, whether it's one day per week, two days per week, or as a substitute on an as-needed basis. This flexibility is designed to accommodate the schedules of its tutors, who can choose to work at a site that is convenient to their home. Tutors and substitutes are needed at all of the West County sites, including Quarterfield Elementary School and Hebron-Harmon Elementary. The program is looking for volunteers who can commit to working with students who are reading below grade level and help them improve their literacy skills.
