The International Monetary Fund is hiring a Senior Communications Officer to work on strategic communications objectives, particularly focused on the Middle East and North Africa region. The role involves integrated media engagement, digital storytelling, and audience outreach. The Senior Communications Officer will work under the general supervision of the Division Chief and Deputy Division Chiefs in the Media and Social Outreach Division. The IMF's Communications Department develops and coordinates the IMF's external and internal communications strategy, and this role will play a key part in advancing that strategy. The Senior Communications Officer will be responsible for driving media relations and digital engagement strategies, building relationships with journalists and influencers, and designing integrated communications campaigns. The role also involves developing high-quality communications products for senior IMF leadership and creating digital content and social media assets. The Senior Communications Officer will monitor and analyze media coverage, digital conversations, and audience sentiment to inform strategic communications planning. The IMF's Media and Social Outreach Division leads the IMF's strategic engagement with global media, digital audiences, and key external stakeholders. The division shapes and amplifies institutional narratives and policy priorities to advance understanding of Fund policies and practices worldwide. The Senior Communications Officer will be part of a team that cultivates relationships with journalists, influencers, and opinion leaders, and develops messaging and communications products.
Responsibilities
- Drive impactful media relations and digital engagement strategies across the Middle East and North Africa
- Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, content creators, and social media influencers
- Design and execute integrated communications campaigns across traditional and digital platforms
- Develop high-quality communications products for senior IMF leadership
- Create, edit, and publish compelling digital content and social media assets
- Monitor and analyze media coverage, digital conversations, and audience sentiment
- Support communications around high-profile institutional moments
- Provide strategic advice on communications positioning, reputation management, and digital engagement
- Collaborate across teams and departments to deliver coordinated communications initiatives
Benefits

Requirements & Qualifications
- Advanced university degree in communications, journalism, political science, economics, finance, international relations, or a related field, with at least 8 years of relevant professional experience
- Significant professional experience working in and/or covering the Middle East and North Africa
- Demonstrated understanding of economic and political environment in the region
- Extensive knowledge of key media outlets and figures in the region
- Demonstrated success in building and sustaining trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic
- Strong strategic communications experience, including outreach strategies in fast-paced environments
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across teams and functions
- Sound judgment, political acuity, and strong interpersonal skills
- Experience monitoring and interpreting media, social media, and geopolitical developments
- Understanding of the IMF's mission, operations, and the broader global political and economic landscape is a strong advantage
- Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, and consensus-building skills
