The Government of Canada is hiring a cabinetmaker to work on site at 150 GLIDDEN RD, Brampton, ON L6W 3L2. The salary is $37.00 per hour, for 30 hours per week, and the position is permanent, full-time employment. The start date is as soon as possible, and there is one vacancy available. The work location is on site, with no option to work remotely. The ideal candidate will have a secondary school graduation certificate and some experience in cabinetmaking. The cabinetmaker will be responsible for operating woodworking machines, preparing specifications for custom-made cabinets, and instructing apprentices. The work environment is fast-paced, and the candidate should be accurate, efficient, and have excellent communication skills. Responsibilities
- Operate woodworking machines, such as power saws, jointers, mortisers, and shapers, to cut, shape, and form parts and components
- Prepare specifications of custom-made cabinets that maximize storage
- Shape surfaces or edges of wood workpieces, using hand tools, such as planes, chisels, or wood files
- Instruct apprentices
- Study plans, specifications, or drawings of articles to be made
- Operate CADD and other computer software systems
- Trim joints and fit parts and subassemblies together to form complete units and reinforce joints
- Sand wooden surfaces and apply veneer, stain, or polish to finished products
- Prepare and apply laminated plastics
- Apply varnish, veneer, stain, or polish to finished products
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- Supervise other workers
- Estimate costs and materials
- Repair or restyle wooden furniture, fixtures, and related products
