Save the Children is hiring a Nutrition Officer to work in Tumaco, Nariño, Colombia. The Nutrition Officer will provide technical and operational supervision of the Food Security and Nutrition component in the territory. They will also have strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and presentation skills, and ability to maintain relationships with community leaders, community members, children, and youth.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidelines at the territorial level on activities developed within the framework of the FSN component for the projects implemented in the territory
  • Supervise structured interventions by the team of assistants, auxiliaries, volunteers, and/or interns working on FSN interventions
  • Create action plans with the FSN team to address identified challenges and capacity gaps, and monitor their implementation
  • Identify capacity gaps in teams and provide on-the-job training and other capacity-building initiatives to ensure that the team has the appropriate technical level to provide quality services
  • Establish cooperation alliances with government entities, civil society, academic institutions, community-based organizations, and other partners
  • Maintain relationships with other actors and partners to refer services from the sector or other sectors that allow complementing our actions
  • Ensure the documentation and collection of quality FSN component data to ensure that sector data can contribute to Save the Children's data and information management system
  • Ensure compliance with guidelines related to the IMERA area within the technical requirements of the FSN component
  • Complete monthly reports on supervision activities, results, and action plans, and share them with the territorial coordination under their responsibility, the Health and Nutrition technical expert, and the Livelihoods technical expert
  • Ensure that FSN component staff adhere to guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the implementation and execution of component activities according to the project
  • Plan with the IMERA coordination and the Health and Nutrition technical expert and the Livelihoods technical expert, quarterly reflection and lessons learned workshops for each project being executed in the territory
  • Attend relevant meetings to ensure that FSN component services are well-integrated and linked with other services available in the territory, and to make known the services of the component
  • Attend local coordination meetings as requested
  • Active participation in municipal, departmental, and GIFIMM FSN tables
  • Strengthen capacities of community leaders, community managers, and health institution professionals
  • Monitor breastfeeding rooms equipped in the La Guajira territory and verify their adequate use
  • Collect nutrition success stories from different projects
  • Make requests in GP for the fulfillment of programmed activities
  • Any other task assigned by the direct supervisor

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Professional in Nutrition and Dietetics or professional in health areas with experience in nutrition and dietetics
  • Availability to reside in Tumaco, Nariño, and willingness to travel to other municipalities in the department or other cities in the country, according to project requirements and territorial or national actions
  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in health areas such as Nutrition and Dietetics or health professional with extensive experience in this field
  • Professional experience in leading health and nutrition teams and health and nutrition services (required)
  • Experience in managing and leading health and nutrition programs (operational knowledge and budget management) (desirable)
  • Proven ability to work in a team
  • Proven experience in capacity building, activity coordination, plan development, and report writing
  • Highly motivated, active, entrepreneurial, and able to adapt quickly to face challenges in implementation
  • Demonstrate commitment to improving the lives of children, adolescents, and vulnerable communities
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and presentation skills, and ability to maintain relationships with community leaders, community members, children, and youth
  • Strong understanding of the situation of children (boys and girls), adolescents, and adult population in rural and urban vulnerable communities
  • Excellent understanding of the complexity of national and local governance structures in the areas of influence of projects that include the FSN component
  • Solid computer skills (MS Office, information analysis systems, others like Outlook)
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children's objectives, values, and principles, including human rights-based approaches
