Save the Children is hiring a Community Health Mobilization Assistant in Yobe, Nigeria, for a 3-month contract. The role will support Community Based Health Volunteers in implementing health interventions through Social and Behavior Change approaches. The assistant will work with community structures, including leaders, women and men groups, and youth groups, to ensure quality delivery of health interventions. The role reports to Nurse/Midwives. The Community Health Mobilization Assistant will oversee the day-to-day activities of community health volunteers, ensuring compliance with Save the Children's processes and standards. The role will also support the establishment and strengthening of Mother-to-Mother Support Groups and Father to Father support groups. The assistant will provide technical support to community health volunteers and facilitate trainings on disease surveillance and community health. The role requires working closely with community members and structures to design participatory strategies and actions to prevent and respond to priority health conditions. The assistant will also identify special needs of women and liaise with the Protection Officer to meet these needs.
Responsibilities
- Conduct community entering activities and participate in the sensitization of community and religious leaders on project objectives and expectations
- Work closely with community leaders and WGC to identify community health volunteers
- Support the establishment and strengthening of Mother-to-Mother Support Groups and Father to Father support groups
- Coordinate the selection of lead mothers and fathers and oversee the day-to-day activities of support groups
- Support community efforts to find solutions to priority health issues
- Support community level assessments and surveys
- Keep track of assessments conducted by different agencies and government in communities
- Provide technical support to strengthen Ward development committees and carry out biannual meetings
- Organize and facilitate trainings for community health volunteers on disease surveillance
- Provide regular technical supervision visits and on-job coaching support to community health volunteers
- Develop support group implementation work plans per LGA
- Develop LGA budget planning and reviewed work plans on a monthly and quarterly basis
- Support community health volunteers to develop monthly action plans
- Engage community members and structures to design participatory strategies and actions to prevent and respond to priority health conditions
- Identify special needs of women and liaise with the Protection Officer to meet these needs
- Identify gaps and challenges in service delivery and coordinate with relevant actors to ensure safe and confidential services
- Maintain records of activities and produce regular reports
- Conduct incidence trends analysis each quarter
- Work closely with community health volunteers to ensure early identification and referral to health facilities
- Collaborate with community health volunteers to increase surveillance of infectious diseases and reporting
- Support quality data collection of activities conducted in communities
- Promote awareness of appropriate health behavior in project communities
- Support the development of case studies and success stories from program implementation
- Provide maternal and childcare/feeding key messages to beneficiaries

Requirements & Qualifications
- B.Sc degree or equivalent in Nursing, Nutrition, Public Health, or related fields
- Minimum of 1 year experience in health community mobilization
- Ability to work with community structures and leaders
- Ability to provide technical support to community health volunteers
- Ability to facilitate trainings and workshops
- Ability to develop and implement work plans
- Ability to maintain records and produce regular reports
- Ability to work in a team and collaborate with other stakeholders
