The United Nations Nippon Foundation Fellowship 2027 is a 9-month program that combines academic research, professional training, and practical exposure to the work of the United Nations. The fellowship is designed for government officials and mid-level professionals working in maritime affairs, ocean governance, marine science policy, and the law of the sea. Selected fellows will spend 3 months at UN Headquarters in New York and 6 months at a host institution specializing in maritime affairs, marine policy, or international law. The program is fully funded and open to international applicants from around the world. The fellowship supports professionals working in fields such as maritime affairs, law of the sea, marine science policy, ocean governance, environmental and marine management, shipping and maritime administration, coastal resource management, and international maritime law. The program consists of two phases: the first phase is a 3-month training at UN Headquarters in New York, and the second phase is a 6-month research placement at a host institution. The United Nations Nippon Foundation Fellowship 2027 is offered by the United Nations in partnership with The Nippon Foundation. The fellowship aims to provide professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to contribute to the development and implementation of maritime policies in their countries.

Eligibility

Be 25 to 40 years old
Hold a first university degree
Demonstrate the ability to conduct independent academic research
Be a mid-level professional working in a government agency, or another governmental or non-governmental organization dealing with maritime affairs
Work in a role that contributes to policy formulation or implementation related to maritime affairs
Submit a nomination and recommendation from an appropriate authority
Propose a research program that directly supports the development or implementation of maritime policies in the applicant’s country
Be available full-time during the entire fellowship period
