Opportunity Overview

The World Food Programme is hiring a Nutrition Sensitive Social Protection and Food Systems Senior Strategic Technical Advisor. This role is a consultant position, lasting 11 months with a maximum of 20 working days per month. The advisor will work remotely with travel to Iraq on mission. The World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian organization, dedicated to saving lives in emergencies and supporting sustainable futures for people recovering from conflict, disasters, and the impacts of climate change. The advisor will support the Iraq Country Office in transforming social protection delivery through cash-based transfers and retail integration. The office is strengthening national systems for social protection and disaster risk management to promote resilience, food security, and inclusive development. The advisor will work closely with the School Meals, Nutrition and Food Systems national workstream lead and other team members to achieve this goal. Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of WFP's nutrition-sensitive social protection framework in Iraq
  • Develop the conceptual direction, including advocacy, capacity building, and knowledge management materials
  • Design an advocacy and government capacity building plan for nutrition-sensitive social protection
  • Conduct a mapping of Iraq's social protection system and develop a proposal to integrate nutrition-sensitive social protection
  • Support the implementation of the proposal by providing technical guidance and identifying opportunities for partnerships
  • Contribute to evidence generation and policy options, including the Fill the Nutrient Gap and Cost and Affordability of a Healthy Diet studies
  • Develop knowledge materials, including policy briefs and presentations, to support government decision-making
  • Support capacity strengthening to the Government of Iraq to conduct food security and nutrition studies and assessments
  • Lead the design and integration of food security and nutrition questions and indicators into survey tools and data collection exercises
  • Identify opportunities for partnerships, linkages, and collaboration with relevant partners
  • Contribute to EU JP reporting and SP Unit weekly updates
  • Provide specialized food systems and nutrition expertise, including nutrition-sensitive social protection design logic
