The role sits at the intersection of deep blockchain protocol integration and high-availability payment systems, tackling challenges around speed, reliability, custody, and scalability to ensure 24/7 transaction execution for customers. Engineers are expected to bring strong, well-reasoned technical opinions, advocate for the simplest and most sustainable solutions, and execute rapidly to solve real customer problems. The company is spread across EMEA, North America, and APAC, with hybrid working at its core. Salary ranges vary by location. In Bulgaria, the range is €70,000 to €110,000 EUR. In Spain, it's €85,000 to €110,000 EUR. In Poland, the range is 250,000 zł to 480,000 zł PLN. Compensation packages are based on candidate experience and relevant certifications. Responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services powering blockchain integrations, digital asset custody, and on-chain transaction processing at scale - Build and evolve integrations with blockchain networks, crypto providers, and custody infrastructure to support multi-chain, multi-asset operations - Contribute to the architecture and evolution of the Layer 1 platform, ensuring reliability, security, and data integrity across blockchain networks and asset types - Build and maintain APIs that support the full digital asset lifecycle, including address generation, deposits, withdrawals, consolidation, and balance management, consumed by teams across the platform - Drive improvements to system observability, performance, and resilience, including monitoring, alerting, and incident response - Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners including product, design, and other engineering squads to deliver high-impact features - Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and technical design sessions to uphold engineering standards - Contribute to the team's engineering culture by mentoring peers, sharing knowledge, and championing best practices - Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rotation Requirements & Qualifications - 5+ years of experience as a backend software engineer, with deep proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or similar JVM-based languages - Experience designing, building, and operating microservices in a distributed systems environment - Solid understanding of relational databases such as PostgreSQL and event-driven architectures such as Kafka, SQS/SNS - Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure - Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies including Docker and Kubernetes - Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code concepts and modern software delivery practices (CI/CD) - Experience with observability and reliability tooling including logging, metrics, tracing, and performance optimisation - Comfortable working with Jira, Confluence, Git-based workflows, and collaborative engineering practices - Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders - A thoughtful, practical approach to problem-solving that considers tradeoffs and avoids over-engineering Nice to Have - Experience working with blockchain technologies, cryptocurrency infrastructure, or digital asset custody systems - Exposure to stablecoin payments, on-chain transaction processing, or multi-chain infrastructure - Understanding of key management, wallet architecture, or self-custody patterns - Experience integrating with blockchain node providers and on-chain screening or compliance tools - Understanding of domain-driven design and hexagonal architecture patterns - Experience working in fintech, payments, or other high-availability transactional systems - Experience working in high-growth or fast-scaling technology environments - Experience contributing to engineering strategy, hiring, or organisational scaling initiatives Benefits - Fair and competitive salary at every stage of your growth - Flexible working hours, with hybrid working at its heart - A culture built on passionate growth-minded people - A flexible approach to holiday - Opportunities to travel to offices around the world - An open and creative environment where you can help define the future of BVNK, its culture, and its opportunity sets How to Apply 1.
