Opportunity Overview

The International Rescue Committee is hiring an Extended Services Intern to work in the Baltimore metropolitan area. This intern will assist the intensive case management team, extended case management team, and services for older refugees program with daily activities that support the long-term integration of refugees, asylees, and other humanitarian immigrants. The intern will work closely with clients, colleagues, and external parties to develop service plans to meet individual client needs and preferences. The internship will start with a required orientation on Monday, September 14th, and will continue through December 18th, 2026. The International Rescue Committee responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. The IRC is one of the world's largest international humanitarian non-governmental organizations, at work in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities. The Extended Services Intern will support vulnerable clients for a period of twelve months, with a particular focus on medically vulnerable clients. The intern will gain an understanding of the U.S. refugee resettlement process and services available to clients in Baltimore. They will learn how to effectively facilitate and advocate for clients' access to timely and responsive medical care and supportive services. The intern will also learn how to identify, adapt, and create appropriate health educational resources and services for global clients.

Responsibilities

Assist clients with remotely arranging transportation to medical and other required appointments
Conduct virtual home or community-based orientation sessions on topics relevant to ICM, ECM, and SOR clients
Assist with service documentation through case-notes and case file maintenance
Other duties as assigned

Benefits

Per diem reimbursement at the rate of $15 per day to offset the costs of food and travel of the internship
Reimbursement for mileage driven for any approved activities
University credit may be arranged
IRC laptop for the duration of the internship to perform both remote and in-office responsibilities

Requirements & Qualifications

Prior experience and/or interest working with refugees and immigrants preferred
Prior experience and/or interest in case management, social work, or public health preferred
Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced and global environment
Flexible and reliable, with outstanding attention to detail
Strong problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and web-based applications
Fluency in English required, bilingual ability in one of the predominant languages of the local client base is desired
Valid driver's license, reliable access to a vehicle with current insurance, and the ability to travel regularly throughout Baltimore strongly preferred
