Director of Engineering, Infrastructure
The Director of Engineering for Infrastructure at Zapier leads several multidisciplinary teams building, supporting, and evolving Zapier's core services, platforms, and infrastructure. This role directly enables every product team at Zapier to move faster and build better quality products. The position is a leadership role with scope to build, and the company is investing in platform engineering as a strategic priority. The ideal candidate has experience building internal infrastructure platforms that engineering teams love to use, leading teams responsible for cloud, database, and event infrastructure, and understanding that internal platforms are products. They should be able to measure adoption, gather feedback, and iterate towards customer delight based on developer needs. The Director of Engineering for Infrastructure will shape the direction of the organization, not inherit a finished state. They will be responsible for defining and driving the strategy and long-term roadmap for their organization, understanding and measuring how their organization's work enables Zapier's product development velocity, and reducing reactive and Keep-The-Lights-On work. Responsibilities Lead several multidisciplinary teams building, supporting, and evolving Zapier's core services, platforms, and infrastructure Define and drive the strategy and long-term roadmap for the organization Understand and measure how the organization's work enables Zapier's product development velocity Reduce reactive and Keep-The-Lights-On work Define and drive the AI transformation of the organization Identify and implement AI-powered tooling and automation that accelerates developer velocity and quality Establish data-driven approaches to measuring delivery velocity and quality Unblock software delivery pain points specific to infrastructure Be accountable for the uptime of Zapier's core infrastructure Step in during major incidents at the director level Develop the next generation of leaders Recruit, hire, retain, and mentor team members Requirements & Qualifications Experience building internal infrastructure platforms that engineering teams love to use Experience leading teams responsible for cloud, database, and event infrastructure Understanding that internal platforms are products Ability to measure adoption, gather feedback, and iterate towards customer delight based on developer needs Experience using AI coding agents and orchestration tools Ability to demonstrate how AI has been applied to transform work, teams' output, and quantify that impact Concrete vision for how AI will reshape infrastructure and developer tooling Experience building teams and systems from the ground up Track record of leading through organizational change and ambiguity Deeply customer-oriented with a track record of understanding customers' needs Experience scaling platform engineering and infrastructure organizations Skilled engineering leader who has built teams responsible for internal developer platforms and infrastructure Ability to make sound architectural tradeoffs Focus on developer outcomes, not infrastructure for its own sake Experience driving developer velocity and quality through platform investment Skilled mentor and coach with a passion for developing engineers and leaders Skilled communicator who can write clearly and communicate proactively Benefits Opportunity to shape the direction of the organization Chance to work with a growing and evolving company Collaborative and dynamic work environment Opportunity to develop and grow as a leader Chance to work with a company that values diversity and inclusion 2.
