About this opportunity
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) is hiring for three finance and administration roles, with applications due by August 3, 2026. They are looking for a Project Accountant, an Administration and Finance Head, and an Accountant. These are full-time positions based in Ethiopia, supporting one of the country's largest and oldest humanitarian organizations. ERCS has been operating since 1935. It is a key part of Ethiopia's emergency response system, providing ambulance services, first aid, family reunification, essential drugs, and water and sanitation programs. The organization also runs long-term disaster risk reduction projects focused on food security, climate change adaptation, and livelihood diversification. Its goal is to help households and communities become more resilient to shocks. The scale of ERCS is significant. It operates through 12 Regional Offices, 34 Zonal Branches, and 131 District or Woreda Branches. Below that, there are 599 Woreda Red Cross Committees and 5,871 Kebele Red Cross Committees. This means the finance and administration staff hired now will be supporting a network that reaches communities across the entire country, from major cities to remote rural areas. ERCS works closely with the Ethiopian Government, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). It also partners with other National Societies and relies on a large base of volunteers. For someone in finance or administration, this means working in a well-connected organization with international standards and reporting requirements. Working in Ethiopia means being part of a fast-growing economy, though the cost of living in Addis Ababa is rising. The city sits at a high altitude with a mild climate year-round. For international applicants, securing a work permit is required, and the process is typically handled through the employer. The work culture in humanitarian organizations here is collaborative, with a strong emphasis on field visits and direct community engagement.
