About this opportunity
The World Food Programme (WFP) is hiring for three positions in Ethiopia, with deadlines in early August 2026. The roles are a Business Support Assistant at the African Union Global Office in Addis Ababa, an IT Operation Assistant in Gambella, and an IT Operations Associate. Each position has its own application deadline, so check the dates carefully before applying. WFP is the food-assistance branch of the United Nations and the world's largest humanitarian organization focused on hunger and food security. Founded in 1961, it is headquartered in Rome and operates in 80 countries. WFP delivers food assistance in emergencies, works with communities to improve nutrition, and is the largest provider of school meals globally. In Ethiopia, WFP runs large-scale operations supporting millions of people affected by drought, conflict, and displacement. Working in Ethiopia means joining a major humanitarian hub. Addis Ababa hosts the African Union headquarters and numerous UN agencies, making it a central base for international aid work. The city sits at an elevation of about 2,355 meters, giving it a mild climate year-round. Gambella, in the western lowlands, is hotter and more remote, closer to the South Sudan border, where WFP runs significant refugee and emergency operations. Living costs in Addis Ababa are moderate compared to Western capitals, though housing in expat-friendly neighborhoods can be pricey. International staff typically need a work permit, which WFP arranges as part of the hiring process. WFP warns that it never requests payment at any stage of the recruitment process, including at the offer stage. Any such request should be refused and reported to local law enforcement authorities.
