About this opportunity
Lenovo is hiring a Staff Engineer for its Technology Consulting team in Hong Kong, a full-time role focused on the operational side of IT infrastructure. The job centers on supporting hardware deployment, maintaining technical documentation, and handling daily monitoring tasks across client sites and data centers. It is an entry-level friendly position, with the company explicitly welcoming fresh graduates. Lenovo is a massive global technology company with US$83 billion in annual revenue, ranked #196 on the Fortune Global 500. It operates in 180 markets and is best known as the world's largest PC maker, but it also builds servers, storage systems, smartphones, and software-defined infrastructure. The company is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under the ticker 992, with an ADR listing under LNVGY. Its stated mission is "Smarter Technology for All," and it has been investing heavily in AI-enabled devices and infrastructure. The role is based in Hong Kong, a dense financial hub where data centers and client offices are often within a short commute. The city has a subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Cantonese and Putonghua are commonly spoken in the workplace, and the job requires proficiency in both, along with English. Hong Kong's cost of living is high, especially for housing, but salaries in the tech sector tend to reflect that. The role involves travel to various client sites across the city, so a willingness to move around is essential. Day to day, this position is hands-on. You might be racking servers in a data center one day, updating configuration checklists the next, and then supporting a scheduled maintenance window outside regular office hours. It is a support role that works closely with database, middleware, and platform teams, so communication and reliability matter as much as technical skill.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, update, and maintain technical documents, project inventories, operational manuals, and configuration checklists
- Assist with hardware installation, including racking and stacking servers, cabling, and performing basic physical health checks in data centers or staging environments
- Support delivery teams with routine infrastructure monitoring and daily health checks
- Handle vendor management tasks and basic log gathering for troubleshooting
- Take on flexible ad-hoc infrastructure tasks assigned by both the Database and Middleware teams and the Platform team
- Travel to various client sites and data centers across Hong Kong as needed
- Support occasional non-office hour operations, such as scheduled deployment or maintenance windows
Benefits
- Full-time employment with Lenovo, a Fortune Global 500 company
- Exposure to enterprise-scale IT infrastructure and data center operations
- Opportunity to work across multiple client sites in Hong Kong
