Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships

The Commonwealth Master's Scholarships are funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office. Commonwealth Shared Scholarships

The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship programme is one of three Master’s programmes offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. The programme aims to contribute to development needs of Commonwealth countries by providing training for skilled and qualified professionals and academics who would not otherwise have been able to study in the UK. The programme is intended for high-quality postgraduate students from Least Developed and middle-income countries. The award duration is normally 12 months. Applications are made via successful universities, which make the initial selection of candidates, who are subsequently approved by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK provides the UK government scholarship scheme led by international development objectives. It operates within the framework of the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan and offers a demonstration of the UK’s enduring commitment to the Commonwealth. Commonwealth PhD Scholarships

The Commonwealth PhD Scholarships are for applicants from least developed countries and vulnerable states, as classified by the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC), in the Commonwealth. These scholarships are for full-time doctoral study at a UK university. The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK (CSC) provides the UK government scholarship scheme. The scholarships contribute to the development needs of Commonwealth countries by supporting research that will have a developmental impact. The scholarships are funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and are aimed at high-quality graduates who have the potential to undertake world-class research of a developmental nature. The scholarships are offered under the six CSC Development themes. Applications for the 2026/27 academic year are now closed, and the scholarships are for study in the UK beginning in September/October 2026. Commonwealth Fellowships – information for UK host organisations

The Commonwealth Fellowship Programme has two strands: Commonwealth Professional Fellowships and Commonwealth Academic Fellowships. These fellowships are for citizens of eligible Commonwealth countries to spend time in the UK working on a programme of professional or academic development. The programme is designed for mid-career professionals and academic staff to undertake a programme of development that will have an impact upon their return home. The fellowships are offered under six development themes, including science and technology for development, improving population health, and promoting innovation and entrepreneurship. The Commonwealth Professional Fellowships are for mid-career professionals with five years of relevant experience, while the Commonwealth Academic Fellowships are for academic staff with a PhD employed by a university in an eligible Commonwealth country. The fellowships will be offered to approximately 10-15 citizens of Commonwealth countries not eligible for ODA and approximately 30 citizens of Commonwealth countries eligible for ODA. The fellowships will begin in March 2027, with Professional Fellowships lasting between six weeks and three months, and Academic Fellowships lasting three months. Host organisations can apply to host between two and five Commonwealth Professional Fellows, and must be based in the UK, be a publicly funded organisation or charity, and have at least £30,000 in cash funds available. Commonwealth Startup Fellowships – information for candidates

The Commonwealth Startup Fellowships are six-month fellowships for high-potential startups from low and middle income Commonwealth countries. The program combines in-person experiences and online learning to provide essential skills and knowledge. It is run by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission and Imperial College London. The goal is for entrepreneurs to build thriving businesses and drive job creation in their home countries. A cohort of 20 early stage start-ups will be recruited. The program includes a two-week bootcamp in Accra, Ghana, and a weeklong series of capstone events at the end. One person from each business must be available to attend these events. The program aims to identify talented individuals who have the potential to make change. The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission is committed to a policy of equal opportunity and non-discrimination and encourages applications from a diverse range of candidates.
